About Us

Cultivating Prosperity in Rural Kenya

At KenReshet, we believe sustainable agriculture is key to transforming rural Kenya. Since our founding, we have dedicated ourselves to empowering farming communities by implementing modern agricultural practices, enhancing food security, and fostering economic resilience.

Our Story

We are a group of 10 young Kenyan researchers from rural farming communities, brought together at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev’s Sde Boker campus in Midreshet Ben-Gurion, where we pursued our Master’s and PhD studies. Many of us have worked in Israel’s communal farming villages—Moshavs and Kibbutzim—witnessing firsthand the transformative power of high-value, communally managed agriculture. As researchers, we saw no fundamental reason why such success could not be replicated back home, except for gaps in action and awareness. Motivated by the desire to bring back to Kenya and Africa at large, the principles of communal operations, research-driven and technology-backed farming, standardized best practices, strong extension services, and collaborative produce marketing, we founded KenReshet Organisation—“Ken” for Kenya and “Reshet” for Midreshet Ben-Gurion, with “Reshet” also meaning “Network.” Our mission is to create model farms, systems, and structures, and to further research that will enable the creation of equally—if not more, successful farming communities across rural Africa.

Our Mission

KenReshet’s mission is to identify the practices of the world’s best farmers and researchers, adapt them, and implement them across diverse agroecological zones in rural Africa, to help build thriving farming communities.

Our Vision

To create a thriving, self-sufficient rural economy where farmers leverage modern and sustainable agricultural practices to achieve food security, financial independence, and ultimately, a higher quality of life.

What We Do

KenReshet was founded with the vision of seeing rural African farming communities thrive. Recognizing the profound impact agriculture has on livelihoods, our founders sought innovative, sustainable solutions to challenges faced by rural farmers. We focus on five strategic areas:

Research-to-Field

Turning proven research into action through model farms, demo farms, and targeted extension in diverse agro-ecological zones.

Standardized Protocols

Creating and enforcing optimized farming standards for consistent, high-quality production.

Youth in Agribusiness

Making farming profitable, modern, and appealing to youth through technology and mechanization, hence tackling youth unemployment and brain drain.

Climate-Smart Systems

Using data, technology, and communal infrastructure to build resilient, water-efficient dryland farming.

Market Access

Linking farmers to profitable markets through aggregation and direct buyer partnerships.

SDGs Directly tackled by our activities.

SDG 2: Zero Hunger

End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

SDG 13 Climate Action

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

SDG 15: Life on Land

Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt biodiversity loss.
